【要承认他人的不足，不要苛求他人；也要承认自己的不足，不要苛求自己】
每个人都有不足之处，因此，我们不要苛求他人，也不要苛求自己。关于不要苛求别人的问题，前面已谈了许多，此处主要谈一下不要苛求自己的问题。苛求别人别人苦，苛求自己自己累。许多人非常要强，什么都想与人攀比，什么都想超过别人，可结果呢？许多人都落了个“心强命不强，气得脸发黄”。所以这样，就是由于认识不到自己的不足之处，不知道自己有许多不如人的地方。人的时间、精力、体力、财力等都是有限的，只有把有限的这些东西集中地用于自己擅长的方面，才会成就自己。否则，为了要强而把它们用到了自己的“短板”之处，只会是“劳己伤财”。当然，这种人还有妄自尊大、藐视他人的意识在作怪。
【历史有历史的必然，过去有过去的无奈】
许多人的不快，往往是由于忘不了过去的不快，悔恨自己过去的错误，认为那时是多么地愚蠢，而一直生活在悔恨过去的痛苦阴影里。其实，这是不能宽容自己——过去的自己的缘故。历史有历史的必然，过去有过去的无奈。过去所以说什么话做什么事，现在看起来是错误的，甚至是荒唐的，但是那时为什么会去做呢？因为，那时有那时要做的必然性——必然的主观因素和必然的客观因素。必然的主观因素包括当时的知识，能力、性格、需求、情感等；必然的客观因素包括当时的自然条件，社会条件，及各种身不由己的外界压力因素。因此，我们要宽容过去的自己，自己的过去。只有宽容过去的自己，我们才能忘记过去的不快而快乐。
【无度的忍耐是软弱，无度的宽容是纵容】
常言道：小不忍则乱大谋。它告诫人们：遇事不要冲动，要冷静多思、理智处事。若感情用事、任性办事，则往往因不能“忍小”而给自己带来很大的麻烦和损失。但忍耐不是无度的，是有限度和原则的：若忍小不能利于大，忍现在不能利于将来，则不能忍。若无原则无限度地忍耐，就是软弱。同理，宽容尽管很有好处很有必要，但也是有原则有限度的：对不认识错误、不承认错误、或不思悔改的人，绝不能宽容，否则就是纵容。
人人有优也有缺，人人都会犯错误，人人都有差异性。不要苛求别人，也不要苛求自己。求大同存小异，多宽容莫苛求。
